The Story

Magnolia dessert takes its name from the legendary Magnolia Bakery in New York. Inspired by the iconic American banana pudding, this dessert found its way into Turkish kitchens over the years, giving rise to countless fruit-filled variations. This strawberry banana version layers the floral sweetness of fresh strawberries with soft banana slices and pillowy vanilla cream — the kind of dessert that draws everyone to the table the moment it's set down.

The dessert that makes everyone reach for a second slice the moment it comes out of the fridge.

Instructions

10 Steps
  1. Pour cold heavy cream into a deep bowl. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, then whip with a mixer until stiff peaks form (about 4–5 minutes). Refrigerate until needed.

  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the milk and pudding mix together for 2 minutes. Let it rest for 5 minutes to thicken.

  3. Gently fold the set pudding into the whipped cream until smooth, light, and fully combined.

  4. Slice the strawberries thinly; set a few slices aside for decoration.

  5. Slice the bananas into thin rounds and immediately toss with lemon juice.

  6. Arrange a snug, single layer of biscuits in the bottom of a rectangular or square glass dish.

  7. Spread one-third of the cream evenly over the biscuits, then layer banana slices and strawberry pieces on top.

  8. Repeat the biscuit – cream – fruit sequence twice more to achieve 3 full layers.

  9. Finish with the remaining cream on top and decorate with the reserved strawberry slices and banana rounds.

  10. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. Slice and serve cold.

Hazel's Note

Chill your mixing bowl and beaters in the fridge for 15 minutes before whipping the cream — it will stiffen faster and hold its shape longer. Toss the banana slices in lemon juice right away to keep them from browning between the layers. If you make this the night before, the biscuits soften beautifully and the layers settle into a perfectly sliceable texture.
